We are hiring a Shopify Backend Developer to join a North American Shopify Premier Agency that builds custom apps and integrations for large ecommerce brands. This is a backend role about APIs, integrations and the systems that run behind the store. It is not theme work. You will solve real engineering problems for brands moving serious volume, with senior developers who do things properly.

The role

The Shopify Backend Developer owns the systems behind the store. You will design, build and maintain the custom apps and integrations that connect Shopify to the rest of a brand's business: ERPs, CRMs, warehouses, subscriptions and internal tools. The work is APIs, webhooks, queues and data, built in Node.js and TypeScript on AWS or similar, for brands moving serious volume.

You will work with a senior engineering team and own your services from design to production, including the parts that make them reliable: rate limits, retries, logging and monitoring. You will review code, document your decisions and explain them clearly to project managers and clients who are not technical. As you settle in, you will lead the technical design of new integrations.

What you will do

Build custom Shopify apps and integrations using the Admin GraphQL API, Storefront API and webhooks

Build and maintain syncs with ERP, CRM, 3PL and other business systems

Develop Shopify Functions and checkout extensions

Write backend services in Node.js and TypeScript, or similar, on AWS or another cloud

Handle data syncing, API rate limits, retries and error handling

Set up logging and monitoring so issues are caught early

Review code and document technical decisions

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of backend development, with real production work on Shopify APIs
  • Strong Node.js and TypeScript, or another backend language
  • Deep experience with GraphQL and REST APIs, webhooks and queues
  • Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience deploying and running services on AWS or another cloud
  • Able to explain technical decisions clearly in English

Nice to have

  • Shopify Plus, Shopify Functions or Hydrogen
  • Go or Python
  • Docker and CI/CD
  • ERP integrations such as NetSuite
